Samsung TVs 2022: QD-OLED, Mini LED, QLED and the rest of the range

The new range of Samsung 2022 televisions has already been revealed and we know most of the details. For this year, the company is putting on sale a very wide range with different types of technologies and designed for different types of users.

After many unknowns regarding the launch of its flagship QD-OLED technology, the launch of the new S95B series is already confirmed and you can now buy the first model to use this technology. We will talk about it later.

But Samsung puts all the focus on its new Neo QLED 8K Mini LED TVs with three new series: QN900B, QN800B and QN700B. Likewise, it also presents televisions with Mini LED technology in 4K resolution, three new QLED ranges for the mid-ranges and simplifies the Crystal UHD input range.

Televisores Samsung 2022 - Novedades y comparativaSamsung TVs 2022 – New features and comparison

Before seeing all the features of the new models, we are going to review the novelties that Samsung introduces this year.

QD-OLED technology

After several years talking about the launch of this technology, finally by 2022 we will see the first QD-OLED televisions.

This technology consists of using an OLED panel together with a sheet of Quantum Dots. In other words, an OLED screen is combined with Quantum Dots, which will provide pure black as well as incredible brightness and color volume.

Likewise, in the new Samsung S95B QD-OLED, color filters are not used, but rather that sheet of quantum dots is used as a color converter, which is going to offer a much better color volume than the WOLED televisions that we have been seeing in the last years.

Currently, OLED TVs use a WRGB subpixel array, in which a white subpixel is added to the usual red, green, and blue subpixels. In the case of QD-OLED panels, this white sub-pixel is not used, but instead is RGB, using a matrix of blue organic diodes that emit light to the layer of Quantum Dots that are responsible for creating the red and green color . As a result, color reproduction is much better in the highlights, achieving a much higher color volume.

This is one of the great advantages, since the color will not lose saturation in the bright areas as it happens in conventional OLED televisions, where from 400-500 nits only the white sub-pixel lights up.

Likewise, the risk of screen marks is reduced and the life of the panel is extended by using three layers of blue OLED, which is, as we know, the most delicate element and the one that degrades first. Mention, that this OLED panel is manufactured by Samsung Display and not by LG that manufactures the white sub-pixel WOLED panels. Sony also launches the A95K model with QD-OLED technology and that we will see very soon in stores.

14-bit light scaling on Neo QLED models

Another novelty is that now the light scale increases to 14 bits, so that the dark areas are darker and the bright areas are brighter, especially noticeable in HDR content. An image is composed of chrominance or color information and brightness information. The color depth in the Neo QLED ranges is still 10 bits as in most high-end models on the market.

But what has been improved is the mapping of the luminance scale to 14 bits, that is, the steps between the most intense black and the most luminous white have been increased . With this, it is possible to improve the detail in the dark parts as well as in the brightest ones, preventing some details and nuances from being lost.

Specifically, there are now a total of 16,384 brightness levels compared to 4,096 last year that the Neo QLED models had.

Picture processor with 20 neural networks

The processor of Neo QLED 8K televisions has an improved image processing system that uses artificial intelligence and 20 neural networks . Last year up to 16 neural networks were used and now in 2022 it is increased to 20.

With this, the processing power of the images is improved, to obtain a better scaling with lower resolution sources. In the end, because 8K content is still very scarce, the processor plays a fundamental role, since most of the time what is going to be played will be 4K or Full HD programming.

Logo Samsung

“The Neo QLED processor works like this: the attributes of the selected video are analyzed in real time by the processor, and then the most optimized neural network of the 20 available will be applied to obtain the best possible result.

This means that each of the 20 neural networks is capable of playing a different role so that the processor can perform even more detailed improvement.”

Bonggeun Lee, Samsung Engineer

With the new 2022 Neural Quantum Processor, the deep learning algorithm analyzes the image and restores the detail in every pixel. In this way, when you watch content in HD resolutions via antenna, cable TV or through streaming video platforms, the scaling in theory is going to be a little better than last year.

As a novelty, now 4 of these neural networks are used for cloud games and another two are used to create a more three-dimensional effect.

Then as always, we will have to wait to see it in person to see if these improvements are really appreciated.

More gaming features

Televisores Samsung 2022 funciones gamingSamsung TVs 2022 gaming features

Samsung televisions are one of the best options to use with video games and especially the new Neo QLED range.

An improvement introduced this year on the QN95B and QN90B Neo QLED models is that it can be played in 4K resolution at a refresh rate of 144 Hz and VRR . Thus, the most demanding players will be able to use these models as if it were a professional gaming monitor.

Tasa de refresco de 144 Hz TV Samsung QN95B y QN90B 2022144 Hz refresh rate TV Samsung QN95B and QN90B 2022

In the QN90B series, it will only be possible to play at 144 Hz in the 43-inch and 50-inch sizes, while in the QN95B it can be played in all diagonals.

Starting with the QLED Q70B series, FreeSync Premium Pro support is included so you can game at a variable refresh rate and avoid screen tearing for a much smoother, stutter-free experience.

Also from the Q70B the four HDMI ports are 2.1, unlike last year , in which, except for the models with One Connect, they only incorporated one.

Integrated Dolby Atmos sound and 3-layer OTS Pro

Until now, Samsung TVs could output Dolby Atmos over HDMI to listen to sound through a sound bar. In this way, you could enjoy immersive audio with additional audio equipment.

New this year is that the models with the OTS Pro and OTS+ sound system can reproduce Dolby Atmos sound from the integrated sound system. Until now, Samsung had decided not to include support for Dolby Atmos, since it considered that the sound system of a television could not reproduce it correctly.

But this year, in the highest-end model, the QN900B, the sound has been improved by integrating four speakers aimed at the ceiling, so the brand has considered including support for Dolby Atmos. Apart from the QN900B, the QN800B, QN700B, QN95B, QN90B and QN85B models support Dolby Atmos audio.

But the most striking novelty is that for the first time on a television, Dolby Atmos can be played wirelessly .

The Object Tracking Sound audio technology is now smarter and the algorithms have been improved so that it detects in real time where the sound is coming from. Now it has a face detector, so that when a character speaks, the sound is emitted right from there. This function is available from the Q70B series onwards.

Tizen’s new design

Nueva interfaz Smart TV Tizen de SamsungSamsung’s new Smart TV Tizen interface

For this year, there is an important facelift on the Smart TV platform. And it is that now it has a quite different interface from last year. It is now styled similar to Google TV or WebOs, and even HBO or Amazon Prime Video interfaces.

Eco control throughout the range

All Samsung televisions from 2022 include the new Eco remote, unlike last year, which began to be included from the Q60A series. This remote, which was introduced last year, uses an internal rechargeable battery instead of batteries, which helps the environment. The battery can be charged through the USB-C port that it integrates or through sunlight or artificial light itself, thanks to the solar panel that comes on the back of the controller.

But another novelty is that now, it can be recharged even by radiofrequency signals from the devices you have at home.

Main features Samsung TVs 2022

So that you better understand the differences between the different models of Samsung 2022 televisions, we are going to explain what the main technologies that are implemented in this year’s models consist of.

Mini-LED technology

Mini-LED-con-tecnologia-Quantum-DotMini-LED-with-Quantum-Dot-technology

Mini LED televisions use much smaller bulbs, with a size similar to that of a grain of sand, which allows you to add a greater number of bulbs compared to conventional LED televisions .

To give you an idea, in a Full Array television such as the 2020 8K series or the 2021 QLED Q80A series, between 100 and 500 bulbs were used depending on the inch. Now in the Mini LED models, between 10,000 and 30,000 bulbs are used, allowing for much more precise light control.

Dimensiones Mini LEDs vs LED convencionalDimensions Mini LEDs vs conventional LED

Apart from this, a lens is used to scatter the light and a package to hold the LED and lastly, incredibly thin micro layers are used with many, many more LEDs.

Logo Samsung

“Conventional TVs have an additional lens on top of the LED so that the light can spread out, so our goal was for the LED itself to guide the light independently.

The new Mini LEDs are not only smaller and take up less space than their predecessors, they also don’tneed the extra layer of lenses, allowing us to align more LEDs together more compactly creating a sharper image.”

Minhoon Lee, Samsung Engineer

In the Neo QLED 8K models, by having more Local Dimming zones, the blooming was greatly reduced, but in the 2021 Neo QLED 4K models, something was still noticeable when viewed in the dark.

To address this, Samsung has improved image processing and added the ‘Shape Adaptive Light’ function that analyzes lines, shapes and surfaces to control the light output of the Mini LEDs, thus perfecting the brightness and accuracy of all images. the shapes on the screen.

Samsung Neo QLED Mini LED TVs also employ Quantum Dot technology to achieve a wide color palette and 100% color volume.

anti-glare screen

The Neo QLED ranges incorporate an anti-glare filter that helps to see the television in situations with a lot of light. It comes in handy when viewed in a brightly lit room and there are windows and lamps that affect the screen or even when viewed outdoors, such as on a terrace in summer.

Samsung’s anti-glare system is the one that works best on the market and thanks to the brightness that its screens deliver, they become the best televisions to watch in bright light.

Ultra Viewing Angle

This is one of the features that we like the most about the Samsung ranges of the last two years. In the premium models QN900B, QN800B, QN95B and QN90B this filter is mounted that improves viewing from the sides.

Thus, you will allow yourself to watch the television from more inclined angles with hardly any loss in color and contrast.

Gama QD-OLED

Samsung launches the new QD-OLED technology that employs for the first time an OLED panel with Quantum Dot technology as in its QLED televisions.

There is only one model available which is the S95B series and it is available in 55 and 65 inches.

S95B QD-OLED

TV OLED Samsung S95B QD-OLEDTV OLED Samsung S95B QD-OLED

This model will have, as we advanced before, a new OLED panel manufactured by Samsung and that uses a sheet of Quantum Dots as a color converter, which makes the brightness and color volume better than the current WOLED models.

One of the differences with respect to the current OLED models is that it does not use color filters, but rather the Quantum Dots are in charge of converting the color coming from the light emitted by the organic diodes, which in this case are blue.

Just like Samsung’s Neo QLED models do, this layer of quantum dots is responsible for modifying the wavelength of blue light to generate red and green colors. And it is that depending on the size of these nanoparticles, it creates one color or another.

Samsung’s QLED technology explained in detail

QLED, is the technology implemented by Samsung in its high ranges since 2017. The key point of this technology is in the use of quantum dots or quantum dots. Regarding panel lighting, it is also different to an LED panel…

The OLED panels manufactured by LG Display are of the WOLED (White OLED) type, in which the light emitted by each of the panel’s self-emissive cells is white. When creating color, in WOLED televisions, it is necessary to place an RGB color filter on top of the organic diode array, which affects color reproduction.

Samsung QD-OLED S95B 2022Samsung QD-OLED S95B 2022

In this case, as we have seen, three layers of blue OLED are used, allowing blue light to pass through to the blue sub-pixel and converting it to red and green with the sheet of quantum dots. The brightness and color are spectacular in this model and a much more vivid image is noticeable.

On the other hand, it comes with the full arsenal of functions, including a 4K panel, it comes with the renewed Neural Quantum Processor with 20 neural networks, a native 120 Hz panel and it incorporates four HDMI ports.

The audio system is 2.2.2 channels with 60W of power with compatibility with Dolby Atmos and includes the Object Tracking Sound and Q-Symphony 2.0 functions.

Aesthetically, it has a thickness of only 3.89 mm at its thinnest part and 3.89 cm at its thickest part. The base is of the central type, similar to that of the 8K models.

Neo QLED 8K 2022 range

Nuevos televisores Samsung 2022 Neo QLED Mini LEDNew Samsung 2022 Neo QLED Mini LED TVs

The Neo QLED range debuted last year and for this 2022, new models with Mini LED technology are launched. As in 2021, there will be three series in 8K resolution and another three series in 4K resolution.

The 8K models are the following: QN900B, QN800B and QN700B. Below, we see all the details and features of Samsung’s new range of Neo QLED 8K TVs for 2022.

QN900B 8K

Samsung QN900B Neo QLED Mini LED 8K 2022Samsung QN900B Neo QLED Mini LED 8K 2022

The most premium model in the 2022 Neo QLED range is the QN900B, which concentrates all the brand’s cutting-edge technologies.

It uses Mini LED backlighting with Quantum Matrix Pro and this year it is capable of displaying up to 16,384 levels of luminance by having 14 bits of contrast. This is one of the most outstanding novelties in the Neo QLED models and it is that now the processing performs an advanced contrast mapping that increases the brightness level of the 12-bit gradation of last year to the 14-bit of now, which achieves greater control of the light source.

On the other hand, thanks to the new Shape Adaptive Light Control system, which we told you about before, the processor now analyzes lines, shapes and surfaces to adjust the light more precisely. It also includes the Real Enhancer function that seeks to give more depth to the image to achieve a more three-dimensional effect.

As for the sound, more speakers have been added and now it has no more and no less than 22 speakers. The algorithm of the Object Tracking Sound system has been improved as we mentioned before and is now capable of detecting faces to emit the sound from the point where they are when they speak.

On an aesthetic level, it must be said that it has one of the most attractive designs with practically non-existent frames around the screen and a thickness of only 1.5 cm. In addition, the back is completely smooth and measures those 15 mm across the entire surface, without protruding parts as in other televisions.

Diseño Infinity Screen Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 2022Infinity Screen design – Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 2022

This QN900B series comes with the new Slim One Connect which is now a bit slimmer. All connections go into this box and there is only one connection cable between the Slim One Connect and the television. Like last year, you can place it on the back of the base or place it further apart, since there are two sizes of cable.

The included controller is like last year’s, which includes a USB charging port instead of batteries and a solar panel on the back that allows it to be charged by sunlight and artificial light.

This QN900B series is for sale in the diagonals of 65, 75 and 85 inches.

QN800B 8K

Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN800B Mini LED 2022Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN800B Mini LED 2022

One step below, we find the QN800B series, which has some differences with the QN900B, although maintaining the most important functionalities.

The first difference is at the brightness level and it is that although it does not reach the impressive 4000 nits of the QN900B in 75 and 85 inches (3000 nits in 65″), it does reach 2000 nits, so the brightness is more than enough. .

In the sound, it is where there are also differences, since the audio system is 4.2.2 channels and with a power of 70W and the Object Tracking Sound system is the Plus instead of the Pro. This means that it has two top speakers instead of four for Dolby Atmos playback, as well as two fewer front speakers.

At the design level, the main difference is that the surrounding frames are very thin, but they do not reach the extreme of the QN900B series where they are practically non-existent.

The Samsung QN800B series can be purchased in the dimensions of 65, 75 and 85 inches.

And as an entry model in 8K, the QN700B series arrives, which comes to replace the QN750A of 2021. This model retains much of the performance of the superior Neo QLED 8K models, although with some important cuts to adjust the price.

One of these cuts is that this QN700B has Quantum Matrix technology as in the QN800B and QN700B models that we have just seen, but not in the Pro version. This means that the number of light dimming zones is lower . We don’t know the exact number yet, but it’s going to be lower compared to the top 8K series. This means that the level of blacks and brightness is somewhat lower.

On the other hand, the image processor is the Neural Quantum Processor in the Lite version, which does not use the system of 20 neural networks of the QN800B and QN900B ranges.

It also does not incorporate the Ultra Viewing Angles filter but the Wide Viewing Angle, which does not offer the same viewing angle. Therefore, it is going to look a bit worse from the sides compared to the models above.

This model has a native 60 Hz panel, but with the Dynamic Refresh technology which is used in some gaming monitors, it can achive a 120 Hz refresh rate when you play in a console connected through HDMI.

In the sound area, it comes with a 4.2 system with 60W and OTS Lite.

The design is still the so-called Infinity One Design with a thickness of only 1.81 cm and with very thin frames and a metallic finish and perforations.

However, in the 43 and 50 inches, they support a refresh rate of 144 Hz in 4K for gaming. Samsung has decided to add it only in these two sizes, to fight with high-end gaming monitors. At the same time the input lag in 4K at 144 Hz is below 5 milliseconds and in 4K and 120 Hz it is 5.8 milliseconds.

In principle, Samsung has confirmed that this year, all inches of this model have a VA panel, so we can expect better contrast compared to the 2021 QN90A series.

The aesthetic is no longer the same and it does not have the Infinity One Design, being thicker and similar to the 2021 QN90A model. Even so, the thickness is 2.59 cm, so we are talking about a very thin TV.

QN85B

Samsung Neo QLED QN85BSamsung Neo QLED QN85B – Samsung TVs 2022

The Samsung 2022 Neo QLED TV series with Mini LED technology closes with the QN85B series . This model maintains a large part of the features of the QN90B, but with some important differences.

One of the most important is that this series only has the panel with the Ultra Viewing Angle filter in the 85-inch sizes.

It also features a less advanced backlighting system with fewer Mini LEDs and fewer dimming zones. This translates into a somewhat lower contrast level and lower brightness. The number of local dimming blocks is 576, which is slightly less than the QN90B.

But perhaps the most important is that the QN85B series has an IPS panel instead of VA like the superior Mini LED models. This means that it will offer worse blacks, seeing these more grayish, apart from the fact that the blooming is more appreciated.

In the area of sound there are also some changes. One of them is the speaker configuration, which in this case is a 2.2.2-channel system with a total power of 60W.

The Samsung QN85B still has the Object Tracking Sound function, but not the Plus in the Standard version.

The design changes with a different base, but it maintains a spectacular design with very thin frames and a thickness of only 2.69 cm.

Gama QLED 4K 2022

Below the Neo QLED range, the QLED range is located. The models that make it up no longer use backlighting with Mini LEDs. The series that make up this series are the Q80B, Q70B and Q60B.

Q80B QLED 4K

TV Samsung Q80B Full Array QLED 2022Samsung TVs 2022 – Samsung Q80B Full Array QLED

The Q80B is the replacement for the 2021 Q80A and has practically the same features as its predecessor.

The backlighting system is no longer Mini LED as in the higher series, but instead features a Full Array system with fewer bulbs and fewer dimming zones.

We do not have the exact zone information yet, but it will surely be similar to last year’s model with approximately 40 zones.

The Q80B series maintains the most important gaming features of the Neo QLED models, such as an HDMI 2.1 port or support for VRR through FreeSync Premium Pro.

Q70B

Samsung QLED Q70B - Gama TV Samsung 2022Samsung QLED Q70B – Samsung TV Range 2022

The Samsung Q70B, unlike its older brother Q80B, no longer uses Full Array backlighting but instead uses Edge LED.

Consequently, it won’t achieve the same level of contrast, although this year it still has the Dual LED system that uses LED lights with warm and cool color temperatures to improve brightness a bit and obtain more neutral whites.

Maintains native 120Hz refresh rate and supports HDMI 2.1 with variable refresh rate via FreeSync Premium Pro, ALLM, and Widescreen Gaming Mode.

A very slim profile is maintained just like the 2021 Q70A model, ideal if you want to put it against the wall. The downside is that the sound is quite poor being so thin, since there is only space to integrate very small speakers. In addition, the audio system is made up of only two speakers.

Q60B

And Samsung’s 2022 QLED TV range ends with the entry-level Q60B model . As for the top-of-the-range Q70B, it doesn’t have a native 120Hz panel, nor is it HDMI 2.1 compatible, in addition to carrying a more basic version of the processor.

Crystal UHD 2022

We come to Samsung’s budget 4K models, which are called Crystal UHD. The models that make up this range are: BU8500 and BU8000. They are models with basic features for those looking for an affordable 4K TV.

As the most basic model, Samsung will continue to sell the AU7175 series from 2021 throughout the year and will therefore not renew the 7 series. At the same time, there is no 9 series and as we will see now, the BU8500 and BU8000 series They are the same television but with different support.

BU8500

Samsung BU8500 Crystal UHD con pie centralSamsung BU8500 Crystal UHD with center stand

The Crystal UHD series of 2022, is reduced and only two new models are presented. Although really, they are two identical models, but with different aesthetics.

We start by looking at the BU8500, which has what is essential today, such as a 4K panel, support for HDR 10+, Bluetooth and Smart TV.

Going into a little more detail on image quality, quantum dot technology is no longer used here as we have seen in the higher ranges. Instead, it incorporates Dynamic Crystal Color technology, which consists of adding a phosphor made up of crystalline particles covering the LED to generate a whiter light.

In other entry-level televisions, a yellow phosphor is used to coat the LED and organic material that degrades earlier in time and produces a less white light. Consequently, Samsung’s Crystal UHD models achieve a better color palette compared to other cheap models from Chinese brands, thanks also to their 16-bit color mapping.

The thickness is very thin as in the Q60A series and the support is of the central type, suitable if you do not have much space in the cabinet. Now, it depends on the size, since in 43″ and 50″ the foot is central but it is wider than in the 55″ and 65″ versions.

The BU8000 series can be purchased in sizes from 43 to 75 inches.

And as we anticipated, the BU8000 series is exactly the same television as the BU8500, but with a two-leg base instead of a central one. The price will be slightly below the BU8500 series, so if you don’t care about the stand or you’re going to hang it, it’s better to buy this BU8000.

Lifestyle 2022

As in previous years, the company is launching a series of televisions with a different design and designed for those who want to fully integrate the television with the design of their home. The Samsung 2022 Lifestyle TV range is made up of The Frame, The Sero, The Serif and The Terrace series.

The Frame 2022

Samsung The Frame 2022 en pared gama LifestyleSamsung The Frame 2022 on wall Lifestyle range

The Frame series is being a sales success especially in the last year and for this 2022, Samsung renews it by adding new features. This model seeks to camouflage itself in your home as if it were a painting. To do this, it includes countless functions, such as being able to display works of art, a brightness and presence sensor, interchangeable frames and a single connection cable to the television.

One of these novelties is the new anti-reflective panel that makes reflections almost completely eliminated in a lighted room.

At the same time, to avoid the cables being seen, the connections are integrated into the One Connect box and with a single cable it is taken to the television.

The wall bracket is included in the box and leaves the screen just a centimeter apart. If you prefer to put it on a table, don’t worry, as it also includes a support to put it on a piece of furniture.

The Serif

Samsung The SerifSamsung The Serif – Samsung TVs 2022

The Serif is another proposal from the company for those who want to give their home decoration a special touch and do not want a conventional television.

The Serif, bases its design on the font of the same name and has very similar features to The Frame, although it does not come with the One Connect box, the No Gap support or the gallery of works of art.

It has a panel with a layer of quantum dots just like the QLED models and is available in the sizes of 43, 49 and 55 inches.

The Sero

For this year, The Sero series is also renewed, which was launched two years ago and differs from other televisions by being able to put the screen vertically. The screen in this case automatically rotates when we turn the mobile and we can view videos vertically or horizontally.

It is a television designed to consume content from social networks such as Tik Tok, Instagram, etc. At the screen level, it has a QLED panel, 4K resolution and comes with the new Display Mate filter that reduces reflections almost entirely.

The Sero incorporates a powerful 4.1-channel sound system with 60W of power located in the lower front part, which is the television support itself. This series The Sero, is only for sale in 43 inches.

Micro LED

Televisores Samsung 2022 - Nueva gama Micro LEDSamsung TVs 2022 – New Micro LED range

And as a main course, the range of Samsung 2022 televisions, puts the finishing touch with a Micro LED television. This technology uses micrometric LED lights to eliminate the backlight and color filters used in conventional screens. In this case, it self-illuminates and produces stunning, realistic colors and brightness thanks to its 24 million individually controlled LEDs. In turn, they support a grayscale depth of 20 bits. This means that MICRO LED models can express every detail of a scene, offering the most comprehensive control with over 1 million steps of brightness and color levels, for a true HDR experience.

As for color reproduction, it shows 100% of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, which show true colors.

In any case, this technology is not yet at affordable prices and is rather limited to the professional sector or users with great purchasing power.

So far, our review of the new line of Samsung 2022 televisions. We hope it has been helpful to you to compare the new models and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to leave us a comment below.
