Samsung has just announced its latest TV, the giant Samsung 83S90C OLED. This 83-inch model is the largest to date with OLED technology and is also the first to use a WOLED panel from LG.
After years of rivalry with LG in the OLED TV market, Samsung has made a surprising turnaround by launching a TV that uses a panel manufactured by LG Display. Last year, the brand released its QD OLED panel manufactured by Samsung Display, which used quantum dots and RGB panel as novelties.
This decision may seem surprising, as Samsung had previously stated that it would not use WOLED technology due to its potential drawbacks in color reproduction and image retention. However, the inclusion of a WOLED panel in the Samsung 83S90C shows that WOLED panels have improved in performance and reliability in recent years.
This year, Samsung has continued and expanded its QD OLED lineup with two series instead of one. In this 2023, the following series are available: S95C and S90C. The former is available in 55, 65 and 77 inches, the latter was launched this year and is the largest diagonal so far. Faced with the difficulties of manufacturing 83″ QD OLED panels for this year, as we informed you a few months ago Samsung.

With this TV, Samsung continues to expand its range of options for users to enjoy the picture quality and realism offered by OLED technology in screen sizes of 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches. The Samsung 83S90C WOLED is already available in the United States and is expected to be available in Europe and Australia in September or October. It is expected to be unveiled at the IFA in Berlin in September.
“Large screens are becoming increasingly popular in the TV sector. With this new 83-inch OLED TV model, we offer one more option for people to experience the advantages of Samsung’s OLED technology on an even larger screen.
We understand that everyone is unique and looking for the perfect TV to fit their space and lifestyle. That’s why we offer a variety of premium options, including the Neo QLED 4K, OLED and Lifestyle TVs, so viewers can choose the one that’s right for them.”
James Fishler, Senior Vice President, Home Entertainment and Displays Division, Samsung Electronics America.
While there are technical differences between WOLED and QD OLED technology, this TV offers an exceptional viewing experience and is an excellent addition to Samsung’s OLED TV lineup.
Importantly, the 83-inch S90C has a suggested retail price of $5400 and is available through authorized Samsung dealers. In terms of specifications, the Samsung 83S90C offers the same features as the other models in the S90C series, with the exception of the display panel.
As for the future of Samsung’s TV offerings, this decision raises some interesting questions. Will Samsung continue to use QD OLED technology for its high-end models and WOLED technology for its more affordable models? Will it continue to mix both technologies in its various OLED TV series? Only time will tell how Samsung’s TV lineup will evolve.
