Samsung 2023 TV lineup: New QD-OLED, 8K, Mini LED and QLED ranges

The new range of Samsung 2023 televisions is already available, and this year, more than ever before, users who want to own a television from the brand will have all kinds of technologies at their disposal.

Firstly, the QD OLED range has been expanded this year to include two models and a wider range of sizes. Secondly, the Mini LED range is still available in both 8K and 4K, following rumours of 8K TVs disappearing due to new energy requirements. Third, QLED and 4K LED models are introduced in the mid-range and entry-level categories. And finally, the Lifestyle range will be renewed and the range of sizes available in the Micro LED range will be extended.

QD-OLED range

For this year, the company is launching two models: the S95C and S90C series. After the success of the 2022 S95B, Samsung wanted to expand the range of QD OLED TVs to reach more potential customers and increase its share in the OLED segment. In addition, the 77-inch size is now available.

QD OLED technology combines an OLED panel and quantum dot technology to achieve superior brightness and color. This technology will debut in 2022 and is based on the use of an RGB OLED panel with no white subpixel and no color filter. The OLED TVs we have seen in recent years use a WRGB subpixel array, which adds a white subpixel to the usual red, green and blue.

QD-OLED-vs-WOLED-differences
QD-OLED-vs-WOLED-differences

In QD OLED panels, this white subpixel is not used, but the usual red, green and blue. The light emitted by the organic light-emitting diodes is blue, and quantum dot nanoparticles are used to generate the red and green colors. In this case, unlike the brand’s QLED TVs, in which a film with these nanoparticles is added, in the QD OLEDs, the quantum dots are added by printing them directly onto the sub-pixels. As a result, color reproduction is much better, especially in the highlights.

The S95C series and the S90C series are two very similar TVs with the same panel, but with differences in the design and the sound. Below we explain the differences between these two series.

S95C

Samsung S95C QD-OLED 2023Samsung S95C QD-OLED – Samsung 2023 TV lineup

The S95C retains the technology that is based on an RGB OLED panel with three layers of blue OLED and the use of quantum dots printed on the sub-pixels. As we explained in our review of the S95B last year, this technology offers a higher level of brightness and color than WOLED TVs. This year, LG’s new MLA panels achieve the same level of brightness, but not in terms of color, as we’ll explain.

For this year, the peak brightness has been increased, reaching up to a value of 2000 nits, but without any increase in the power consumption. In this way, more brightness and more energy efficiency have been achieved.

Another new feature of the new S95C series is that it now comes with Slim One Connect. This is a box that has all the connections in it, so the TV itself does not have any connection ports, except for the one for the connection to this box. This Slim One Connect box comes with a cable of about 2 meters, so you can attach it to the back of the stand or leave it out of the way in a piece of furniture.

Slim One Connect junction boxSlim One Connect junction box

In our opinion, the design is more successful than what we saw on the S95B, as the latter was extremely thin, but it was also more delicate in terms of placement. Unlike last year, the profile is completely flat, there is no thinner and thicker part as was the case with the S95B. Now the top part is thicker, but the bottom part is much thinner. In this case, the thickness is only 10mm across the screen, maintaining an ultra-thin design. The appearance is therefore similar to the 8K TVs we have seen in recent years, but with a slimmer profile.

In terms of sound, the performance has been increased and the sound system is now a 4.2.2 with 70W. It integrates two speakers placed on the bottom, two tweeters on the side as well as two tweeters on the top, and passive radiators have been added on the back.

S93C / S90C

S90C OLED - New Samsung TVs 2023S90C OLED – New Samsung 2023 TV lineup

Then there is the S93C series, which retains most of the features of the S95C, but with a few reductions to make it more affordable. Two versions are available with identical characteristics, the S93C with a grey base and frame border and the S90C with a black one.

Although not many aspects have been confirmed yet, it seems that there will be differences in design and sound as first suspected, but there will also be differences in image. It looks like the S90C and S93C are not going to reach the same brightness level as the S95C and may use the same first generation QD OLED panel as the 2022 S95B.

In terms of audio, the S93C and S90C have a simpler 2.1 system with 40W of power. Therefore, they remove the two side and top tweeters, making them OTS Lite instead of OTS Plus.

In terms of design, there are not many differences, but as we said, the connections are integrated into the TV instead of the Slim One Connect box. Some people will be better off when they come with One Connect while others prefer not to, so this aspect will put the balance to choose one or the other model.

The back is no longer completely flat, but there is a bump between the top and bottom as there was last year.

Like the S95C, the Samsung S93C and S90C 2023 series are available in 55, 65 and 77 inch sizes.

Neo QLED 8K range

Samsung continues to be the manufacturer most committed to 8K resolution, as evidenced by the launch of three new series. While some manufacturers are still not taking the step to launch an 8K TV or are even starting to reduce the range of models, for Samsung 8K is the most cutting-edge technology.

Samsung's new range of Neo QLED 8K televisions for 2023.Samsung’s new range of Neo QLED 8K TV sets for 2023

As is the case every year, the debate continues as to whether it is worth it to buy an 8K TV, given the lack of content available. However, they are a good option if you want to be on the cutting edge and prepared for the future. In the case of the QN900C and QN800C series, we are talking about high-end TVs, so you are assured of high quality regardless of whether the content is in 8K or not.

Sony 2023 TV lineup: Features of the new models

Sony has unveiled its 2023 TV lineup, which includes OLEDs, mini-LEDs and 4K LEDs. Surprisingly, the Japanese company will not be launching an 8K model this year, but will continue to work on last year’s Z9K. Among the most important new …

The key is that the image processor used by the QN900C and QN800C models is very powerful and uses 64 neural networks to perform good scaling. This is why we are talking about an increase in the number of neural networks from 20 last year to 64 in 2023.

All Neo QLED 8K TVs use mini LED backlights. We are talking about bulbs that are 40 times smaller than conventional LED and QLED models. This allows for better control of the light, which means an increase in brightness and better uniformity with a reduction in blooming.

To help you understand the differences between the three series, here are the main features of each.

QN900C

Samsung Mini LED 8K Neo QLED QN900C of 2023Samsung Mini LED 8K Neo QLED QN900C

The flagship for 2023 is the QN900C, which integrates a mini LED panel with quantum dot technology. Although we do not yet know the number of dimming zones (local dimming), but there is talk that this year will increase. Last year it was up to 1920 zones, but apparently this number will increase.

On the other hand, last year’s 14-bit luminance has been retained, which makes it capable of displaying up to 16,384 levels. The processor performs advanced contrast mapping at 14 bits, which allows for greater control of the light source, showing more detail in dark and very bright areas.

In terms of sound quality, it brings no less than 22 speakers with a 6.2.4 channel system with four top speakers to better reproduce Dolby Atmos.

QN800C

Samsung Neo QLED 8K 2023 QN800C seriesSamsung Neo QLED 8K 2023 series QN800C

Below the QN900C is the QN800C Mini LED, which retains many of the same features, but has a slightly lower brightness and a sound system with a smaller number of speakers.

The maximum peak brightness goes up to 2000 nits, which is still spectacular brightness. The brightness is lower than the QN900C because it has fewer local dimming zones, although we do not yet know the number of dimming blocks.

It retains a 10-bit color panel and 120 Hz refresh, as well as the Neural 8K processor with 64 neural networks. Also note that it continues to have the anti-glare panel and the Ultra Viewing Angle filter for good viewing from anywhere.

In terms of sound, the system is 4.2.2 channels, so it has two top speakers instead of four. It still supports Dolby Atmos.

QN700C

Samsung QN700C Neo QLED 8KSamsung QN700C Neo QLED 8K

For those who want an 8K TV but don’t want to spend that kind of money, Samsung is putting the QN700C series on sale. This is a model with a more affordable price, but at the cost of some sacrifices.

The first is that it uses a less powerful processor, the Neural Processor 8K LIte. This processor does not analyze the image pixel by pixel but frame by frame.

Another reduction that occurs with respect to the QN800C series that we have just seen is that it does not have a 120 Hz panel, but it is 60 Hz in 8K. According to Samsung, this model will be able to handle images in 4K resolution as if it had 120 Hz when playing games, thanks to the use of dynamic refresh technology.

Likewise, the Ultra Viewing Angle filter has been removed and replaced by the so-called Wide Viewing Angles, but we already told you that it has nothing to do with it. Viewed from the side, there is a noticeable difference from the QN800C.

Other differences are that the sound system becomes 4.2 channels, so the upper tweeters are eliminated, and the output power is 60W and OTS Lite. It is compatible with Dolby Atmos, but already in a virtual way, since it does not have overhead speakers.

On the other hand, the Multi View function only allows you to view two split screens instead of 4 as in the top 8K models.

The QN700C series is therefore an 8K model, but one that in our opinion offers a picture that is well below the premium 8K and 4K models.

We continue with the review of the new Samsung TVs for 2023 with a very interesting model within the high end. We are talking about the QN90C, which maintains a peak brightness of 2000 nits along with anti-glare and ultra viewing angle filters. The difference with the QN95C is that it uses the Neo QLED 4K processor, which uses artificial intelligence instead of neural networks. Therefore, the scaling and image processing is expected to be a bit lower.

The sound system is 4.2.2 channels with 60W of power with OTS+ and Dolby Atmos. Although not yet confirmed, it is expected to be available in smaller sizes such as 50 inch and 43 inch, so if you want a high-end Samsung TV in small inch, this is the model you need.

Samsung Neo QLED 4K Features Comparison Table

QLED 4K range

We already know all the details of the new 2023 QLED 4K QLED series. It consists of three series: Q80C, Q70C and Q60C. Although there are design variants with the references Q77C and Q64C, they offer the same features as the Q70C and Q60C series, respectively.

These are mid-range models that still use Quantum Dot technology, but no longer include Mini LED backlighting and more advanced features. Here are the features of the new Samsung QLED 2023 TVs.

Q80C

Samsung Q80C QLED Q80C 4K Direct Full Array 2023Samsung Q80C QLED Q80C QLED 4K Direct Full Array 2023

The top of the QLED series is the Q80C, which no longer uses the mini LED backlight and in this case uses a more basic system with far fewer bulbs and with a reduction in the number of local dimming zones.

In this case, we are talking about a Full Array TV with which the LED bulbs are also placed behind but, as we said, no longer has thousands of mini bulbs, but we are talking about hundreds and of a larger size. It is clear that by not having such a high density of bulbs and dimming zones, the light control is not as precise and will not deliver the same contrast as the Neo QLED series.

It still offers a good level of contrast with fairly pure blacks and brightness up to 1500 nits peak brightness. The number of zones we don’t know yet, but we are probably talking about a number similar to the 48 zones of the Q80B model of 2022.

In terms of gaming performance, it has four HDMI 2.1 ports and FreeSync Premium Pro for 4K gaming at 120 Hz.

The Q80C series, new compared to last year, expands the range of inches. Those who want a big TV are now in luck, as it is now available in 85 and 98 inches.

Samsung Q70C QLED 4K 2023 with HDMI 2.1 and 120 HzSamsung Q70C QLED 4K Q70C 2023 with HDMI 2.1 and 120 Hz

We continue our review of Samsung 2023 TV lineup with the. Q70C series. This is the intermediate model that keeps some features of the Q80C, such as the 120 Hz panel and the wide viewing angle filter or the processor with artificial intelligence.

The main difference, however, is that this is an Edge LED TV where the LEDs are only placed on the bottom. This results in lower contrast compared to the Q80B and worse uniformity as the light cannot be controlled evenly. The brightness does not reach 1500 nits and stays around 700 nits.

The sound system is also inferior, with only two speakers and a power of 20W, and Dolby Atmos is no longer supported.

The strong point is that its thickness is very reduced, so it is a TV that will look great if you plan to leave it hanging on the wall. It is also a TV that, as we have commented, maintains the four HDMI 2.1 ports and FreeSync Premium Pro.

Therefore, we are sure that it will be a top seller like its successor, the Q70B, as it is a TV that is good value for money, especially for those looking for a gaming TV.

Q60C

Samsung Q60C QLED- New Samsung TVs 2023Samsung Q60C QLED- Samsung 2023 TV line up

As the entry level model within the 2023 QLED 4K series, we find the Q60 Series. This is the latest model with Quantum Dot technology. Unlike the Q70C, the panel is 60Hz and does not have an HDMI 2.1 port.

The image processor is less powerful and does not use artificial intelligence, nor does it have the Wide Viewing Angle filter to improve the side view.

It is still as thin as the Q70C, but the base is no longer in the middle and consists of two legs at the ends. On the 75″ and 85″ sizes, these legs can be moved further to the center to take up less space.

All in all, this is a model that will be another top seller this year, as there is usually a lot of availability and it is usually priced very aggressively. Even though it’s an entry-level model, being a QLED model, it’s going to grab a lot of sales in the lower mid-range segment.

Crystal UHD range

Samsung’s Crystal UHD 2023 series consists of more basic models. For this year, three new series are put on sale: CU8500, CU8000 and CU7000. The first two are really the same model, but with a change in design.

CU8500 / CU8000

Samsung CU8500 Crystal UHD 2023Samsung CU8500 Crystal UHD – Samsung 2023 TV lineup

We continue our review of the new series of Samsung 2023 televisions, with the CU8500 and CU8000 having the same features and the only thing that changes is the design. The CU8000 has a base composed of two legs at the ends, while in the CU8500 these legs are more central and includes a trim that hides them. As a detail, the CU8500 is wider in the 43 and 50″ sizes.

Samsung CU8000 Crystal UHD with Dynamic Crystal ColorSamsung CU8000 Crystal UHD with Dynamic Crystal Color

In terms of performance, this series no longer uses Quantum Dot technology, so the color palette is reduced and does not reach the brightness level of the Q60C. However, it does use the Dynamic Crystal Color system, which consists of adding crystalline particles that cover the LED bulbs, creating a whiter light that is then filtered.

The CU8500 and 8000 series have an ultra slim design like the Q60C series and also include the new Eco control with a smaller size.

CU7000

Samsung CU7105 Crystal UHD 2023 featuresSamsung CU7000 Crystal UHD 2023 features

As the most affordable 2023 model, we find the CU7000. This would be the replacement of the AU7105 that came out in 2021, since last year Samsung did not renew the UHD 7 series. It presents very similar features, but now with some improvements such as Motion Xcelerator function, Gaming Hub menu and OTS Lite sound.

In this series, the Dynamic Crystal Color system has been eliminated. Instead, the conventional system is used, in which a yellow phosphor is added to cover the blue LED to produce a white light. As a result, the white light is not as pure and brightness is lost with this system.

In addition, the CU7000 does not come with the Eco controller with solar charging and USB-C, and instead comes with the classic battery-powered controller.

Lifestyle Range

If you are one of those who are looking for a minimalist design that fits in with your home, it is worth taking a look at their Lifestyle range. There are more and more alternatives on the market that are looking for a different look that blends in with your home.

To fill this niche, Samsung is launching its new Lifestyle 2023 TVs. Surely you already know the most famous of them, which is ‘The Frame’, but there are also other proposals such as The Sero and The Serif.

The Frame 2023

Samsung The Frame – New Samsung TVs 2023

One of the most popular Samsung models is undoubtedly The Frame. And is that this model is dintingue from the rest by having an appearance that simulates that of a painting. You can change the frames between different colors and comes with a wall bracket already included. Although it is initially intended to put it on the wall, it also comes with the base to place it on the furniture. On the other hand, the connections are integrated in the One Connect box and it has only one cable to connect to the screen.

This One Connect differs from the S95C and 8K models by being larger and more rectangular, but has a 5m cable instead of two, and a thinner cable that goes unnoticed.

The Frame also has other features that make it special. First, it comes with a number of artworks included so that they are displayed when you turn off the TV instead of leaving the screen black. There are some free ones (very few) and then there is the Art Store where you can subscribe to have access to many more works of art. If you prefer, you can also upload photos from a USB stick or share them from your mobile phone.

It has a brightness and color temperature sensor that adjusts the image to the conditions of the room for a much more realistic effect. It also has a presence sensor so that it switches to Art mode when it detects that there are people in the room or when the lights are turned on. You can set this to your liking or turn it off.

And as we saw last year, it comes with a matte screen that literally eliminates any reflection, which avoids disturbing windows or lamp helping perceive more textures of paintings and generate a more realistic effect.

The Frame 2021 vs. The Frame 2023 Matte Screen The Frame 2021 vs. The Frame 2023 Matte Screen

The Frame 2023 series is available in sizes from 43 to 75 inches. It is also going to be available in 32″, but it is going to be the 2022 model that is going to be sold, no new one is going to be launched in that size.
