New Samsung 2021 TVs: Neo QLED, 8K, Micro LED and Lifestyle series

We already know the new range of Samsung 2021 TVs with the models that make it up and the new features it includes. For this year, Samsung is introducing mini-LED technology in its high QLED range, which improves the backlighting system, and will also launch its micro-LED model in several sizes.

Next, we’ll review all the new features the company is adding to its TVs this year and all the models that are part of the new lineup of Samsung 2021 TVs.

The big news in Samsung 2021 TVs is undoubtedly the new implementation of the mini-LED system in Samsung TVs, which is an improvement over the previous QLED generation that included the full-array system.

This year, Samsung is getting on the mini-LED technology bandwagon, as is LG with its new QNED models and TCL, which has already been selling TVs with this system for a year. Before we look at Samsung’s new Neo QLED range, let’s explain what Neo QLED technology is, what it consists of, and what improvements it offers.

What is NEO QLED?

Samsung uses the term Neo QLED to describe its premium QLED TVs that feature mini LED technology.

Mini LED is really an improvement on the Full Array system, adding many LED lamps and being much smaller in size. The company claims that its Quantum Mini LED TVs use LEDs that are 40 times smaller than conventional LED TVs.

Mini LEDs size vs Conventional LED

To give you an idea: The size of each of these mini LEDs is like a grain of sand. On the other hand, instead of a lens to scatter the light and a package to hold the LED, they use incredibly thin microlayers with many more LEDs.

This, along with the new Quantum Matrix system that controls the mini-LEDs, results in better light dispersion along the panel and avoids the dreaded blooming effect. In addition, halos are no longer visible around luminous objects in a dark background.

The new Neo QLED TVs 2021, will include a new image processor that uses more advanced scaling formulas and improves Deep Learning with up to 16 new neural networks. As a result, Neo QLED TVs will now be able to scale content much better at resolutions below 4K.

Another new feature is that the light scale has now been increased to 12 bits, so dark areas are displayed darker and bright areas brighter, which is especially noticeable with HDR content. However, the panel’s color depth remains at 10 bits.

Therefore, there is a more significant change in the picture quality of Samsung TVs in this year 2021 than in the previous years, where there were no major innovations.

The flagship TV of 2021 is the Neo QLED 8K QN900A, which is equipped with the company’s latest technologies.

This TV features the use of the new mini-LED system with Quantum Matrix technology, which allows much more precise control of the mini-LEDs.

This TV also stands out in terms of design, presenting a truly spectacular look with virtually zero bezels and a very thin thickness. A design that Samsung calls “Infinity” and that debuted with the Q950TS 8K model.

It features the new HDR 10+ Adaptive System that Samsung recently introduced, but unfortunately Dolby Atmos is not yet supported this year.

On the sound level, the renewed Object Tracking Sound Pro system provides a more immersive effect by following objects as they move around the scene.

The range of Samsung 2021 8K TVs is completed by the QN800A series, a model for those who want to have access to 8K technology but at a much lower price compared to the QN900A.

In this case, we still have the main features such as mini-LED technology, 120 Hz panel, same image processor or premium panel with ultra-viewing angle filter, but with the cuts that we’ll share with you below.

First of all, this series reduces the number of local dimming zones that manage the backlight. We don’t yet know the number of zones that each model has, but we do know that this number is lower and therefore the contrast ratio is lower than the QN900A, as expected.

The sound system also consists of a lower number of channels, namely a 4.2.2 sound system with a power of 70W. It comes with Object Tracking Sound, which tracks objects, but in the Plus version instead of the Pro version.

It is also worth mentioning that the design and build are less spectacular than the QN900A and that it does not have the design called Infinity Screen, where there are hardly any bezels.

The QN85A series, seems to be the series that will conclude the new Samsung Neo QLED series of 2021, at least for now.

Not all the features are known yet, but it will probably keep most of the features of the QN90A series, but with a backlight system that uses fewer mini-LEDs.

You’ll also have a slightly inferior system in terms of sound, and it won’t come with the One Connect box.

QLED 4K 2021 range

Below the Neo QLED range is the “classic” QLED range, which no longer uses the mini-LED system, but instead employs an edge-LED backlight. The QN70A and QN60A series make up this range.

The Q70A, unlike its big brother Q80A, no longer uses full-array backlighting, but instead relies on Edge LED. Therefore, it will not achieve the same contrast level, although it still has the dual-LED system this year, which uses LED lights with warm and cool color temperatures to improve brightness and get more neutral whites.

It keeps the 120 Hz panel and it’s also compatible with HDMI 2.1 and the new FreeSync Premium Pro feature.

Regarding to design like the rest of the Samsung range for this 2021, the thickness has been reduced quite a bit and has a very slim profile. And as a novelty, it is now possible to adjust the height of the feet if you place a soundbar directly underneath.

Lifestyle series 2021

The Sero

Samsung The Sero - Vertical TV
Samsung The Sero – Vertical TV

This model was unveiled at the last CES in Las Vegas 2020 and caught everyone’s attention due to its unique design.

With The Sero series, Samsung proposes a different concept than usual, with a screen that rotates to view horizontally or vertically.

The Sero is designed for users who use social networks a lot and watch a lot of videos in portrait mode.

This TV is only available in the 43-inch size and in the blue color.

It has a good 4.1 channel sound system with 60W of power. In addition, the sound is projected from the front, so it is a TV that is well heard.

However, the downside that the Sero has is that its price is much higher than other Samsung models like The Frame or the 2020 QLED Q60T range, and certainly the new QN60A.

The Frame

Samsung The Frame 2021
Samsung The Frame 2021

The Lifestyle series made its debut with the launch of The Frame model in 2017.

This series is characterized by simulating the look of a frame, as it is equipped with a number of features that create this look.

Firstly, a gallery of artworks is already integrated, and secondly, it is possible to purchase the works you like through the app “Art Store”.

Then it has an ambient sensor that detects the lighting in the room to adjust the brightness of the screen and offer more realism.

It also has a presence sensor that detects when you are nearby. So when you walk away, the TV turns off, and when you come back, it automatically turns back on.

The frame comes with the “No Gap” wall mount already included, leaving the screen just 1 cm away.

To give that picture feeling, you need to avoid seeing cables hanging out. That’s why The Frame also has the One Connect Box, which only runs one cable from the TV to this connection box.

Also is important to mention, that you can buy separately different types of frames that better fit the aesthetics of your home.

This year, the new 2021 version of The Frame comes with thinner frames and, as in recent years, with QLED technology.
