LG 2024 TVs: Introduction of the new series

The new line of LG 2024 TVs is now available and as in previous years, the range is divided into OLED, QNED, NanoCell and LED.

For this year, the company presents a series of very interesting new features such as improvements in the OLED panel of microlenses, greater processing power in its image chip with AI, greater functions and more advanced sound systems and features.

And there is also a surprise and that is that for this year the brand will not launch a new model with 8K resolution. Last year’s OLED Z3 will continue to be sold, but there will be no Z4 series. This confirms the lack of user interest in 8K technology, which is going the same way as the 3D TVs that disappeared years ago.

Next, we will show you the features of LG TVs for 2024, so that you know everything the new models have to offer.

Main features

Before we look at the new ranges in detail, let’s take a look at the main features and new products for this year.

META 2.0 / MLA+ panel

LG has unveiled for this 2024 a new generation of OLED META or MLA panel that uses a layer of microlenses to exponentially increase brightness. These added microlenses are inspired by the eyes of a dragonfly, which have 360º vision.

Each pixel is equipped with up to 5117 micro-lenses and its unique design allows the internal light to be emitted from the display, thus achieving a revolutionary level of brightness.

This new panel is called META 2.0 or MLA+, and the lens angle has now been optimized to improve luminous efficiency and provide even more powerful performance.

Another factor that has been improved is the META Multi Booster algorithm. It now analyzes the brightness information in each scene more accurately to enhance more specific areas. According to LG, the maximum brightness has been increased by 42%, reaching 3000 nits.

Finally, this META 2.0 / MLA+ panel incorporates the Detail Enhancer, which refines the adjustment of pixel attenuation in both light and dark areas. This results in a richer and more detailed visual representation of, for example, a starry sky. The bright points of the stars have a higher peak light.

OLED range

Four series have been confirmed for this year: M4, G4, C4 and B4. As we have just told you, no series with 8K panel is expected for this year. The previous Z3 will continue to be sold throughout the year.

Let’s now look at each model in detail.

OLED M4

As the top of the range, we find the OLED M4 series that replaces the M3 launched the previous year. This model is available in 65, 77, 83 and 97 inch sizes.

This LG OLED M4 stands out for having the connections separated in an external box. This means that they are not located on the TV but a wireless accessory called Zero Connect. We talk about the linking of this box and the TV is done wirelessly.

This is similar to the Samsung’s One Connect but as we say without cables.

Then other key points of this model is that it comes with the OLED MLA+ panel with microlenses that takes this technology to a new level of brightness as we have never seen before. However, in the larger 97″ size, as this type of display is not yet manufactured, the one it carries is an OLED Evo panel.

The image processor is the Alpha 11 which uses the brand’s most powerful image processing with clear support for artificial intelligence.

OLED G4

The G4 series also incorporates the new generation of microlens MLA+ panel that allows it to boost brightness to near 3000 nits peak. As with the M4, on the 97-inch, the panel is Evo without the microlens layer.

For this year, another new feature is that this model is not only designed to be wall-mounted, but also has a floor-standing version. Within the G4 series there are two references, the G45LW and the G46LS. The former is the one that comes with the wall bracket included, the “Zero Gap”, while the latter is the one that comes with the “Zero Gap” wall bracket, while the latter comes with the “Zero Gap”. The second version comes with a table stand.

We think this is a wise move, as there were many people who dismissed the G series because it could only be hung on the wall. It is true that there was an official LG bracket as well as other generics, but many people did not know about this and then also, that it meant an extra expense.

Well, finally, this is over and depending on whether you prefer to put it on a wall or on a piece of furniture, you will have a specific model for each situation.

OLED C4

Below is the C4 series compared to last year, we could say that there are more differences from the G series to the C. And with the 2023 series there was mainly the change of the MLA panel against the Evo, but this year also joins the processor.

If in previous years the G and C series shared the same image processor, this is not the case this year. As we have just seen, the G4 series has the Alpha 11 processor, but the C4 now has the Alpha 9. Therefore, the image processing chip is inferior.

As always, this is the OLED series with more sizes available as it is on sale from 42 to 83 inches.

OLED B4

To finish the OLED range, the B4 series is launched. This series always suffers some cuts that this year are translated in that it carries conventional WOLED panel not Evo as the C4, the image engine drops to Alpha 8 and no longer supports a frequency of 144 Hz.

With respect to last year’s B3, it has gained two additional HDMI 2.1 ports so now they are all, the four it has.

Design-wise, it now debuts a two-legged stand on the sides. This gives it a less premium look in our opinion, although it may come in handy for placing a soundbar just below it.

QNED series

The QNED series is based on a combination of different technologies. On the one hand, the most premium models use Mini LED backlight together with Quantum Dot and NanoCell technologies.

Quantum Dot is the technology popularized by Samsung, which consists of nanoparticles added as a color filter to increase the color palette.

NanoCell, which is a proprietary system of LG, also contributes to better reproduction through the use of nanoparticles, in this case of 1 nanometer. Rather than expanding the color palette, these NanoCells are responsible for removing impurities, resulting in purer RGB colors.

As the top model of the QNED range we find the QNED90T which features IPS panel incorporating Quantum Dot and NanoCell technologies. The backlighting is Mini LED and features Precision Dimming technology, although we do not yet know the number of local dimming zones.

The powerful AI α8 4K processor, which significantly improves the overall performance of the TV with advanced features such as AI Super Upscaling 4K, AI Brightness Control and HDR Dynamic Tone Mapping.

The color depth is 10-bit, the native refresh rate is 120 Hz and it has support for VRR (AMD FreeSync).

Basically, the QNED89T series will consist of a 98-inch version only. What we know at the moment is that it has a VA type panel with 10-bit and 120 Hz refresh rate.

In addition, it will no longer be a Mini LED model, but with Direct LED backlighting, so the picture quality is expected to drop quite a bit compared to the top model QNED90T.

The processor is still the Alpha 8, and the audio is a 2.2 channel system with 40W.

The QNED85T series feature Edge LED backlight with local dimming and depending on the inch we find that they carry VA or IPS panel.

The color depth of the panel is 10 bits and the native refresh rate is 120 Hz. For gamers, it maintains two ports of HDMI 2.1 and supports VRR FreeSync Premium.

They are available in different sizes from 50″ to 98″.

NanoCell range

The NanoCell series has lost weight in favor of QNED, but at least for this year we have confirmed the NANO82T6B and NANO81T6A series.

NanoCell technology, as we have seen, provides an improved color gamut by using nanoparticles in the panel with a size of 1nm to filter out certain color waves.

NANO82T

LG NANO82 NanoCell 2024 SeriesLG NANO82 NanoCell 2024 series

The NANO82T6B series no longer features the Quantum Dot technology of the QNED range, but they come to compete equally with Samsung’s QLED range. This model is already in a much more affordable price range.

With respect to the superior QNED80T range, it maintains the same features in terms of processor, sound power, etc.

Therefore, the main difference is going to be more at the color reproduction level as it no longer carries quantum dots.

The NANO81T6A is identical to the NANO82T6B but is available in 86 inches. And in this size, there is one important difference and that is that the panel is 120 Hz.

In this way, the moving image is going to be more fluid and if it is used for gaming because it also comes with HDMI 2.1 to take full advantage of the latest generation consoles.

4K LED range

And for the more affordable range, LG launches three new series: UT810006LA, UT80006LA and UT73006LA.
