LG 2022 TVs: New OLED, QNED, NanoCell and 4K UHD ranges

The new range of LG 2022 TVs is here and arrives with important new features that we are now going to see in detail. In this article you will know all the models that make up the new OLED, QNED, NanoCell, UHD 4K and HD ranges.. We will also show you all the differences between the different models, so that you know which one best suits your needs.

Last year, LG launched its new Evo panel, which improved brightness and color volume, but was only found on the G1 series. Now, the brand is also including it in what will possibly once again be its best-selling C2 series.

Similarly, the Alpha 9 and Alpha 7 processors are updated and OLED technology finally comes to the small inch with the. C2 model in 42-inch and on the other hand to the big inch with the launch of the G2 series in 97 inches.

Main novelties new range of LG 2022 televisions.

Before going into detail of each model, we want to explain what are the main novelties that are integrated in the range of LG 2022 TVs.

OLED Evo panel arrives in the C2 series.

Last year, one of the most important new features was the launch of the evo OLED panel. In this new panel developed by LG, a new green emissive layer has been added and the hydrogen in the blue OLED compound has been replaced by deuterium.

New LG G1 Evo OLED panel with new green and deuterium emitting layer.New LG G1 Evo OLED panel with new green and deuterium emitting layer

This allows for a reduction in heat and which results in the panel being able to offer more brightness, without reducing lifespan while reducing the risk of screen burn-in and marking.

For this year, the good news is that apart from the G2 series, the C2 also has this evo OLED panel.. With this, you are going to be able to enjoy LG’s top-of-the-line panel in its best-selling OLED series.

Though that said, the G2 series incorporates a heat sink that allows the brightness to be increased by up to 10% compared to C2. The C2 series will achieve a similar brightness to the previous evo G1 while the G2 is an improvement over last year.

However, it seems that in the 42-inch and 48-inch sizes, due to technical issues, they are going to have a slightly lower brightness than the higher versions.

THANKS TO THE EVO OLED PANEL AND THE NEW HEAT SINK, THE G2 SERIES CAN ACHIEVE A MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS CLOSE TO 950 NITS, WITHOUT REDUCING LIFETIME AND REDUCING THE RISK OF SCREEN MARKING.

IT IS ALSO MORE EFFICIENT AND A REDUCTION IN POWER CONSUMPTION IS ACHIEVED.

The new G2 model can achieve up to 30% more brightness than the B2 series, through the Brightness Booster Max system, which basically refers to the heat sink.

With this new generation, also the auto brightness limiter (ABL), comes less into play and when there are many portions of the screen in white, this is going to be more powerful and it’s not going to become so gray.

OLED lineup expands to more sizes

We already saw how last year the first OLED TVs were launched in 48 inches and now this year, the variety of sizes available is increased, with 42 and 97 inches.

LG launches the world’s first 97-inch OLED TV and also adds a new 83-inch model to its portfolio, with the G2 (Gallery Edition) series.

The C2 series also offers a wider range of models in terms of size, with a total of six different panels. New this year is the 42-inch OLED TV, the first OLED TV on the market.ideal for a small room and ideal for gamers.

Main features 2022 models

To make it easier for you to choose between the different models that we are going to see now, we want to explain what some of the most important features of the LG 2022 models consist of.

Dolby Vision in 4K and 120 Hz

LG’s 2022 OLED TVs from the B2 series onwards support the Dolby Vision HDR format. But unlike other brands, are the only ones that support Dolby Vision in 4K and at a frequency of 120 Hz.. Right now, there is hardly any content that supports it and it is more focused on video games. The new Xbox Series X game console supports Dolby Vision at 4K and 120 Hz and the first compatible titles are already appearing.

So, if you are a regular and demanding gamer and want to have a full-featured compatible gaming TV, OLED TVs from the B2 series onwards support this feature. Thanks to this, you will get an HDR effect with spectacular high dynamic range images in compatible Xbox X Series games.

Also, the vast majority of models for 2022 come with the Game Optimizer panel that was launched last year to control in a much more direct and simple way all settings with video games.

Mini LED Technology

LG QNED 2022 TVs feature Mini LED technology. Unlike the NanoCell and 4K LED models, QNED models implement a backlight system with Mini LEDs, which are LED bulbs 40 times smaller in size.. In this way, the number of bulbs increases exponentially and a QNED TV can integrate more than 10,000 bulbs, which makes the light control much more precise.

To this end, the number of Local Dimming blocks is also increased so that a group of those Mini LED bulbs can be turned on and off independently, which produces an increase in contrast.

OLED 2022 Range

The time has come to see all LG 2022 TVs in detail and we start with the most premium range which are the OLED models.

The Z2 series is this year’s flagship and featuring an 8K panel and the G2 Gallery Edition series, is the premium model in 4K resolution. However, only the G2 along with the C2 series incorporate the new evo OLED panel. Two more affordable series, the B2 and A2, are also being launched.

Next, we see already all the models that make up the new OLED range of LG for this 2022.

OLED 8K Z2

LG OLED Signature Z2 with 8K ResolutionLG OLED Signature Z2 with 8K Resolution

As in the last two years, LG launches an OLED model with 8K resolution in large inch size. Surprisingly despite being this year’s flagship, it does not feature the evo panel that the 4K G2 and C2 series does..

But the biggest drawback of this model is its price, since we are talking about an extremely expensive TV and only within reach of very few.

OLED G2

LG G2 OLED TV evo 2022TV LG G2 OLED evo 2022

We continue with the G2 serieswhich no longer offers 8K resolution, but instead does not have such a high price and comes with the new Evo panel. It is the model designed for those looking for the highest quality, as it incorporates LG’s brightest OLED panel with the widest color gamut.

In the evo OLED panel, as we have seen in the section on what’s new, introduces a new layer and a stronger emitting material that refines the wavelengths of light and makes it possible to achieve a higher brightness.

New materials are used in the red and blue OLEDs and a new green OLED layer is added that increases brightness.. Also, the new G1 with Evo panel achieves higher accuracy in primary color wavelengths.

The image processor is the 5th generation Alpha 9 for the best definition and color treatment along with top-notch scaling.

The audio system consists of 4.2 channels and achieves 60W of power. As expected, it is compatible with Dolby Atmos, although to get a more immersive feeling, there is no choice but to add a soundbar.

As this model is intended for wall hanging the ideal soundbar is the GX which offers an ultra-flat design so it doesn’t protrude so much from the wall.

In fact, it does not include stand support, but you can purchase separately the ‘Gallery Stand’, a new stand to elevate the TV and support it with a minimalist foot.

The new G2 Evo series, is on sale in 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches.

OLED C2

The C series, is usually the top seller of the brand within the OLED range and this year, it seems that it will be the same, considering that this year also includes the evo panel.

As we have commented, the peak brightness of the C2, is going to be somewhat lower than the G2, due to the fact that it does not have the Brightness Booster Max system. Basically, unlike the G2, it does not include the heat sink, so according to the company the peak brightness is 10% lower than the G2.. Compared to the B2 which we will see later, the peak brightness is up to 20% higher.

It comes with the 5th generation Alpha 9 processor and includes four HDMI 2.1 ports, VRR, ALLM, making it a very complete TV for gaming.

The C2 series is available in a wide range of sizes from 42 to 83 inches. Depending on the size, it has a stand as in previous years (42 and 48 inches) or a new one, also of central type, but which occupies much less and leaves the screen a little higher.

OLED B2

Another very interesting model is the B2, which no longer has an evo panel, nor the Alpha 9 image processor.. As mentioned above, this will be mainly noticeable in HDR brightness, where the B2 will reach a lower peak brightness than the C2.

In this B2 the processor is the Alpha 7 5th generation, which does less intensive scanning of the image and has less power to treat objects separately.

In any case, the features for those looking for a TV for gaming such as HDMI 2.1, VRR and ALLM are maintained. The only thing is that instead of four HDMI 2.1 ports it has two.

And to close the new range of LG OLED 2022 TVs, the company renews the A series that debuted last year, with the. new A2 series. In this model, a number of important cuts are made to adjust the price as much as possible.

First, no longer has a 120 Hz panel or HDMI 2.1.something that will put off gamers who want to use it with the PS5 and Xbox X Series.

The panel delivers less brightness a little less brightness than the B2 and in terms of sound, it also receives some cutbacks, as. the audio system goes from a 2.2 and 40W from the B2 to a 2.0 channel system and 20W of power..

QNED Mini LED 2022 range

One of the great novelties this year, is the debut of the QNED range that uses a new backlighting by means of Mini LEDs in some models. This new system is implemented under an LCD panel that also uses Quantum Dot and NanoCell technology.

New Mini LED system for LG's QNED TVsNew Mini LED system for LG’s QNED TVs

This combination makes LG’s new QNED TVs a great alternative to the company’s own OLED TVs. For those who don’t want to buy a TV with OLED technology, either for fear of screen marking (already rare nowadays) or because of the higher price in large inch sizes), this new generation of screens is a great alternative.

However, the panel as usual, is IPS type, which gives a lower contrast ratio than VA panels. In addition, this year, there are models within the QNED range that use Mini LED backlighting and others do not.

One step below the new OLEDs, are the new LG QNED Mini LED QNED996 and QNED966. These are the new high-end LCD TV sets, with Mini LED technology which combines quantum dot technology with backlighting by 40 times smaller LED diodes.

In LG’s QNED ranges, NanoCell particles added to the panel are combined to filter the color and improve the viewing angle and on the other hand a layer of Quantum Dot nanoparticles as a color filter to increase the color palette and increase the color volume up to 100%.

The QNED series with Mini LED technology along with NanoCell particles and Quantum Dots, are the QNED996, QNED966, QNED926, QNED916 and QNED866 series. On the other hand, the series that only use NanoCell particles and Quantum Dots are QNED826 and QNED 816.

These new QNED models are available in sizes from 65 to 86 inches.

QNED996

As ‘flagship’ within the QNED range employing Mini LED technology, there is the QNED996 series, which features a panel with 8K resolution and the company’s most powerful processor the 4th generation Alpha 9. However, it is a 60 Hz panel TV.

It is available for sale in 65-inch and 75-inch sizes.

QNED 80

As we explained above, within the QNED range this year there are models that do not use Mini LEDs, but only the combination of NanoCell particles and Quantum Dots and an Edge LED backlight with conventional LEDs.

These models are the QNED826 and QNED816 which are identical TVs in performance, but with different frame color. Then there is another difference and that is that in 86 inches, only the QNED816 model is for sale.

NanoCell 2022 LED range

Alongside the QNED TVs, LG maintains its commitment to NanoCell models. For this 2022, there is a wide range of Nanocell models.

Here we explain all the features of the new LG NanoCell 2022 TVs.

NanoCell NANO816

LG NanoCell NANO816 Smart TV 4KLG NanoCell NANO816 Smart TV 4K

As for differences from the top model NANO856, this model no longer supports Dolby Vision, the panel refresh rate is 60 Hz native instead of 120 Hz and all four ports are HDMI 2.0 instead of 2.1.

The image processor it carries is the basic one mounted by LG and does not enjoy artificial intelligence. This will mean a worse noise reduction, a drop in sharpness, with a worse scaling when viewing content below 4K.

NanoCell NANO766

The NANO76 series, is positioned as the entry-level model within the NanoCell line and features very similar specifications to the NANO816 and NANO806 we have just seen.

It is available in a wide range of sizes from 43 to 86 inches.

2022 4K LED Range

Finally, we look at the entry-level LG 2022 LED 4K LED TVs, which no longer feature a NanoCell panel and feature a lower price point.

Both versions have a panel with Full HD resolution, 50 Hz refresh and support HDR 10. There are hardly any changes with the previous versions 32LM6370 and 32LM6380 and the main novelty, is that they come with the new WebOS 22 operating system.
