Design
The appearance of this new speaker is more discreet than the previous version XBOOM Go PL7 and now comes covered with a resistant fabric. However, this more sober design comes to life when we activate the lighting effects. Through the XBOOM app, you can choose between different lighting modes to create an ambient, natural or party environment. The color of the LED lights varies and changes with the rhythm of the music, enhancing the sensations with a wide selection of 16 million colors.

On the top, you will find buttons to control the speaker’s functions, as well as an LED that shows the battery status. To turn the speaker on, simply press and hold the power button for two seconds.
The Bluetooth button performs different functions depending on whether you press it once or hold it for two seconds. If you press it once, it switches from Bluetooth to AUX, and if you keep it pressed, it allows you to connect to a second device.
At the bottom is a rubber band that makes the speaker is firmly attached to the surface and prevent it from losing stability and rolling.
The bottom side of the XBOOM Go XG7QBK
As usual with this type of speaker, which is ultimately intended for outdoor use, the LG XBOOM Go XG7QBK is waterproof. In this case, we are talking about IP67 resistance, so it can withstand being submerged to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes, as long as it is fresh water, not salt or chlorine.
At the same time, it also offers resistance to dust. Of course, it is important to keep the connector covers closed so as not to damage the speaker. Therefore, if you want a speaker that you can take to the beach or pool, this LG XBOOM Go XG7QBK is a great option.
Connectivity
You can connect to your phone or player via Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary input or the XBOOM app. The Bluetooth version is 5.1, which allows you to connect to two devices at the same time, and the range between the phone and the speaker is wide. We had no connection problems when we moved about 10 meters away.
XBOOM Go XG7QBK built-in connections
If you are listening to music on your phone and a call comes in while you are in hands-free mode, you can answer the call without picking up your phone.
It is appreciated that the auxiliary port is maintained, unlike other competing models that decide to eliminate it. Although most people will use it via Bluetooth to stream music from the phone, having a wired connection expands the possibilities of using the speaker. For example, we were able to test it connected to a TV without Bluetooth to improve the sound. This is not its main use, but it is nice to have this option.
Remember, as we said, to close the rubber cover when you get it wet to avoid damaging the speaker.
With the LG XBOOM app, you can select the song and color you want to appear on the speaker’s LED lights when that song is playing. Link songs and colors.

Battery life
Speaking of battery life, you can listen to music without worrying about recharging it regularly, as the battery lasts up to 24 hours when used at moderate volume and without the light effects turned on. As always, if you use it at maximum volume with all the lights on and SoundBoost enabled, the battery life will be shorter. In any case, it performs well in this aspect and offers a great battery life compared to some of its competitors.
You can also charge your phone with the speaker itself, since it has a power bank function when you connect your device to the speaker’s USB port.
Sound quality
In terms of sound quality, the LG XBOOM is surprisingly powerful for its size. The maximum power output is 40W, with a 30W woofer handling the mids and bass and a 10W dome tweeter for the highs.

The woofer is capable of reproducing low frequencies without distortion, and the dome tweeter delivers crisp highs. The Sound Boost bass booster increases the intensity of the bass, giving the low frequencies a greater presence without hogging the limelight. And even though the bass is more punchy, the other frequencies are still present and not masked. In our opinion, you should always leave the Sound Booster function on for a more dynamic and entertaining sound.
To increase the bass intensity, add the passive radiators on the sides.

Vocals come through with good clarity, and don’t sound boxy like other speakers in a similar range. Overall, it offers a rich and well-balanced sound, so most people will find the sound to be well-tuned as it comes. However, you can adjust the sound to your liking through the LG XBOOM app, where you have a 6-band equalizer. This way, although the speaker comes well balanced by default, you can boost the bass, midrange and treble frequencies to your liking.
As mentioned before, we tested it connected to various devices, including the TV. Although for this use it is certainly not worth replacing a sound bar, we have obtained a good audio vision, especially highlighting the clarity in the voices, so it can serve you if your TV has a very bad sound and you find it difficult to hear the dialogues.
LG XBOOM Go XG7QBK review – Is it worth it?
LG XBOOM Go XG7 portable speaker review – Is it worth it?
After intensive testing and comparison with other similarly priced alternatives, the LG XBOOM Go XG7QBK has undoubtedly left us with a very good feeling. It offers great sound quality with a well-balanced audio that has strength in the bass while maintaining definition in the mids and highs. We really like the way it handles vocals, making them sound very clear and with a greater sense of extension.
This is a speaker that delivers plenty of power for home use, but it also delivers outdoors and keeps distortion at bay at maximum volume.
In addition to its sound quality, it is a speaker with a good battery life and that allows you to add a festive touch thanks to its lighting effect to the rhythm of the music.
In our opinion, the LG XBOOM Go XG7 is a great portable speaker that we certainly recommend your purchase and more having its excellent value for money.

Alternatives to LG XBOOM Go XG7
There is a lot of competition in this price range, and perhaps the most direct is the JBL Charge 5, which we also reviewed here. The truth is that these are two speakers that sound great, and we recommend one as well as the other. The speaker configuration is the same with a woofer and a dome tweeter and a power is 40W, however, if it is true that we like more how the LG XBOOM Go XG7 handles the mid tones, since the voices have a greater clarity compared to the Charge 5.
Also, the price of the XBOOM Go XG7 is more affordable than the Charge 5, although this difference varies depending on the color.
