Bang & Olufsen launches new Beosound A5 loudspeaker

Bang & Olufsen presents the new Beosound A5 portable speaker, designed in collaboration with the Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi. The Beosound A5 portable speaker poetically combines Nordic and Southern design cultures with the captivating sound, meticulous craftsmanship and product durability of Bang & Olufsen.

“Beosound A5 is our new high-end portable speaker, combining Bang & Olufsen’s timeless design with our vision for the sound of the future. We are delighted to be working for the first time with GamFrates to create two speaker models rooted in our Scandinavian aesthetic and design signature.”

Michael Henriksson, Head of Product Marketing

Available in two colour options: The Beosound A5 in off-white with a paper front and light oak handles that evoke a peaceful Scandinavian summer; and a charcoal black aluminium version with a dark oak speaker cover and handles that evoke a wintry forest aesthetic. Both finishes are perfect for indoors or outdoors and represent the pinnacle of Scandinavian design.

The Beosound A5 lies at the crossroads between portable and home audio. The solid oak handle makes it easy to move the speaker from room to room, whether on the floor, shelf or table. With IP65 water and dust protection, the Beosound A5 can also be taken outdoors and on any adventure.

With over 12 hours of playback time and a wireless phone charger built into the top of the speaker, it’s Bang & Olufsen’s most versatile speaker to date and the perfect portable audio companion. It is controlled via a simple user interface or directly from the Bang & Olufsen app.

“Our inspiration for Beosound A5 came from many places, including the iconic Beolit series, but the main source of inspiration was Scandinavian nature, its natural raw materials, colors and textures. From the traditional Panama straw hats worn on the beaches to the hand-woven leather details of 1960s Danish chairs, the blends of natural materials guided our design journey.”

GamFratesi

The soft organic curves and natural materials refer to the curved edges and handle of the Beolit 607, launched in 1961. The teak finish of the Beolit 800 and Beolit 1000 chairs, originally designed by Jacob Jensen in the late 1960s and early 1970s, also influenced GamFratesi’s design process for Beosound A5.

Sound

The new Beosound A5 series is the most powerful in the brand’s portable range to date. It also delivers great sound wherever it is placed. The four-driver configuration with four digital amplifiers delivers a total of 280 watts of power to fill large rooms with 360-degree dynamic sound. Comprising 1 5.25″ woofer, 2.2″ mid-range drivers and 1 ¾” tweeter, the Beosound A5 is as much about design as sound.

Although the aesthetics are inspired by Bang & Olufsen’s Beolit series, the technology of this speaker is inspired by the category-leading Beolab 90 and 50 hi-fi speakers. Beamforming technology, an innovation first introduced in the Beolab series, has been applied to this new model to control the sound with great precision. The result is an immersive experience that goes beyond what is expected from a portable speaker.

Designed to last

Bang & Olufsen is renowned for its durable products, and the Beosound A5 is no exception. In addition to its timeless appearance, the speaker has been designed in a modular way so that it can be easily repaired and its life can be extended if necessary, rather than having to be replaced with a new speaker. Bang & Olufsen will continue to produce the easily replaceable grilles in new materials and colours so that the Beosound A5 can evolve with the customer’s style and identity.

These design elements ensure a long service life for a single customer and even multiple life cycles with different owners in the future. When the Beosound A5 reaches the end of its useful life after many years of use, easy disassembly and the use of high-quality materials for the structural components favour circular solutions.

Thanks to Bang & Olufsen’s Mozart software platform, the longevity goes beyond physical craftsmanship and modular design. Mozart offers the latest features in audio, connectivity and software design. It combines the heritage of the past, the technology of the present and the innovation of the future of Bang & Olufsen products.

Connectivity

The versatility of this model extends beyond design to software. In addition to being a standalone speaker, the Mozart platform allows two Beosound A5s to be seamlessly connected in a stereo system or with any other Mozart-compatible speaker in the Bang & Olufsen portfolio. It can also be seamlessly integrated into a Bang & Olufsen smart home system, creating an immersive multi-room experience at the touch of a button.

Mozart’s advanced capabilities and the introduction of ultra-wideband will unlock new features over time, such as Proximity Pairing, which takes connectivity one step further. Proximity Pairing automatically pairs two Beosound A5s for an immersive stereo experience when placed close together.

It supports Beolink Multiroom, Airplay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Bluetooth 5.2 and more, proving that it’s much more than just a physical design made to go anywhere.
