The integrated sound of televisions do not usually have a great quality, for this reason, it is highly recommended to add a soundbar to get a more immersive sound and with greater definition. But what if we could combine audio from the TV and the soundbar to sound at the same time? That is what Samsung’s Q-Symphony technology allows and we are now going to explain how it works.
How does Samsung’s Q-Symphony work?
Samsung Q-Symphony System
When a soundbar is connected to the TV, typically the TV audio is muted and only the soundbar plays. In this case, Q-Symphony allows the TV and soundbar audio to be combined to sound at the same time.
Therefore, it will allow you to enjoy all the speakers at the same time by combining the TV sound with the soundbar, without cancelling any of them. It is important to mention that this function was released in 2020, but in 2022 it was updated with improvements. In 2020 and 2021 the 1st generation Q-Symphony was used, while in 2022 the 2nd generation was released.

The difference is that in the first generation of Q-Symphony, it was not possible to combine all the speakers of the TV, but only two could be heard. But in the second generation it is now possible to combine the speakers of the bar and all the speakers of the TV.
In the 2nd generation of Q-Symphony in addition, the TV speakers complement the surround effect and can work both wirelessly (soundbars that have Wi-Fi) and wired. In the new models of TVs and soundbars with integrated Wi-Fi from Samsung you can also use Q-Symphony and listen to Dolby Atmos wirelessly. The only thing that by Wi-Fi is Dolby Atmos with compression when transmitted in Dolby Digital Plus format, while wired you can listen to Dolby Atmos lossless when played by Dolby True HD.
Either way, as of today most content coming from streaming platforms that are in Dolby Atmos are with Dolby Digital Plus format.
Finally, another new feature of the second generation of Q-Symphony, is that activation is now easier. Simply when you connect the soundbar to the TV, a message appears on the TV screen to accept or reject the pairing. If you don’t want to use it at that moment, you can always activate it later from the audio output menu.
The most extreme case where you can get up to 22-channel surround sound, is if you put together the sound of the QN900B 8K series which has a 6-channel system and the HW-Q990B soundbar which has 16 channels of audio.
